LOGIVAC Consortium Launch Brings Health Logistics Partners Together
November 16, 2011
The LOGIVAC project has reached a key milestone with the signing of a consortium agreement between the partners supporting the project’s goals.
Comprising public and private, regional and international organizations, the consortium will play an important role providing technical, political and institutional support to LOGIVAC, and help sustain the operational viability of its first regional reference center.
The partners signed the agreement at the consortium’s launch, held on October 27-28, 2011, at the Institut Régional de Santé Publique (Regional Institute of Public Health - IRSP), Ouidah, Benin. AMP’s executive director, Dr Alfred da Silva, described the meeting as “a decisive step in the implementation of the LOGIVAC health logistics project".
During the two-day meeting, partners defined a vision of the challenges and possible solutions for establishing a professional health logistics supply chain, and developed a work plan for the consortium activities for 2011-2012. Each organization presented their area of expertise and the support they could provide the consortium.
Consortium partners present at the meeting included the GAVI Alliance, Agence de Médecine Préventive (AMP), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Bioforce, IRSP, Organisation de Coordination pour la lutte contre les Endémies en Afrique centrale (OCEAC), Project Optimize, Bolloré Africa Logistics, RTT, the EPIVAC network and WAHO.
LOGIVAC is being jointly implemented by AMP and the World Health Organization with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
