1972: Birth of AMP
1974: AMP organizes the 1st International Seminar on Vaccination in Africa (SIVA) in Bamako, Mali
1977: Beginning of collaboration with Dr. Jonas Salk, Dr. Charles Mérieux, Dr. Hans Cohen, and Dr. Toon Van Wezel on the development of a new inactivated polio vaccine (IPV)
1980: New eIPV vaccine proposed (containing 40-8-32 Di-antigen per dose)
1981: 2nd edition of SIVA in Dakar, Senegal
1983: Start of collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for training in field epidemiology
1984: Creation of the Institute for the Development of Applied Epidemiology (IDEA)
1987: AMP holds the 3rd edition of SIVA in Niamey, Niger in honor of Toon Van Wezel, a pioneer in vaccinology
1994: 4th edition of SIVA held in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire
1995: Launch of EPIGEPS training program in epidemiology and health management
1996: AMP organizes international conference on Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) in Asia (Bali, Indonesia)
1997-2002: AMP conducts first Hib vaccine probe study in Lombok, Indonesia
1998: AMP convenes international stakeholders in Dakar, Senegal to discuss the reemergence of yellow fever in Africa
2002: EPIVAC© program launched to strengthen immunization systems in West Africa
2006: 2nd yellow fever seminar held in Bamako, Mali
2008: SIVAC program launched to support the creation or strengthening of National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs) in GAVI-eligible and middle-income countries
2009:
- Africhol established to improve cholera surveillance and prevention in Africa
- ADVIM created to enhance advocacy for immunization financing in three West African countries
2010:
- PneumoTone surveillance study launched in collaboration with the Togolese Ministry of Health
- AMP organizes “AfriFlu” conference on influenza in Africa
