Health Economics & Financing

Despite the tremendous progress in global health in recent years, vaccine delivery remains a major challenge among the world’s poor.

Central to increasing immunization coverage is the analysis and communication of reliable data on: vaccine costs, implementation costs, and cost-effectiveness (from the point of view of society, governments, international donors, national immunization programs, etc.). This information is critical to ensure adequate spending on health and effective allocation of financial resources to different types of public and personal health services.

Our work in health economics aims at producing and disseminating knowledge to improve the performance and financial sustainability of immunization systems in developing countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. In addition to our research activities, we provide countries with the following:

  • Technical assistance for the costing and financing of their multi-year strategic plan
  • Training in health economics and program financing (delivered in the context of projects such as ADVIM, SIVAC, and EPIVAC©)
