Vaccination: The EPIVAC Network Celebrates its 5th Anniversary

Over the past decade, governments, donors, and other partners have committed tremendous resources to increasing access to new and underused vaccines. Thanks to these scaled-up efforts, millions of lives have been saved. However, at least two million people, mostly in the developing world, still die each year from vaccine preventable diseases.

To help improve national immunization programs in countries eligible for support from the GAVI Alliance, AMP launched EPIVAC© in 2002. The program—which involves on-the-job training for district medical officers and technical support to countries—is proving itself to be an important tool in optimizing national immunization programs.

In RFI’s Public Health radio program, Dr. Philippe Stoeckel, Dr. Alfred da Silva, and Dr. Aristide Aplogan talk with Clair Hédon about EPIVAC achievements and explain how it’s supporting GAVI’s goal of increasing access to immunization in poor countries.
