Removing the Barriers to Health Development in Asia

Despite several booming regional economies, poverty in Asia is widespread and the risk of infectious diseases emerging and reemerging remains high.

AMP is leveraging its 40 years of work in immunization and vaccinology to help its partners in the region strengthen public health systems that in turn support the achievement of the UN health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Flexible, Efficient, Effective

AMP has prioritized possible axes of interventions and will work flexibly, efficiently and effectively with Asian governments, development partners, and civil society organizations. Our projects and interventions are guided by in-depth analysis of the region’s needs, and are designed to make the most impact within the constraints of each program.

Boosting Health Capacity in Vietnam

In 2010, AMP signed an agreement with Vietnam's National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE) to strengthen national capacity in various health-related fields. One year later AMP opened its office in Hanoi. This office supports our tailor-made projects and interventions on public health and immunization issues in the country and region, and provides technical support to Vietnam's health system.

Our current projects include:

  • Situational analysis of preventive medicine systems in collaboration with the NIHE
  • Vaccinology research with the World Health Organization on the usability and acceptability of aerosol delivery devices for the measles vaccine
  • Health policy initiatives, such as the SIVAC Initiative, with the Vietnamese Ministry of Health to strengthen Vietnam’s National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAG)
  • Immunization services, such as NEPINET, to improve the performance of immunization in Vietnam
  • Human resources for health, focusing specifically on education and training, action-oriented research, professional networking, and harnessing multimedia and new technology

Partnerships and Collaboration

AMP is a member of the Global Health Workforce Alliance (GHWA) in the region, as well as part of the Health Partnership Group led by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health.

In the near future our Vietnam office plans to develop inter-country projects in the region.
