FOPROSA
Health promotion has been defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the process of enabling individuals and communities to increase control over, and to improve, their health. It moves from an individual focus to consider a wide range of social and environmental interventions based on the broad determinants of health.
In recent years, there has been a significant acceleration in the development of health promotion in Africa. Many countries now recognize the use of this process as a means for increasing social responsibility for health.
To further develop health promotion skills in Africa, AMP has developed, in collaboration with the Regional Institute of Public Health (IRSP), an innovative training program called FOPROSA (Formation Régionale Africaine en Promotion de la Santé). The program is designed to build capacity in health promotion in Africa by training a large number of professionals in the field.
Carried out over a period of six months, FOPROSA involves classroom learning (one month) and distance training (five months). The first edition of FOPROSA was launched at IRSP in Ouidah, Benin, in September 2009.
Program partners include:
- Réseau francophone international pour la promotion de la santé (REFIPS)
